Flat-fee services and limited scope representation

Between 70 and 80% of parties in family law cases in California do not hire an attorney. By contracting with an attorney for flat-fee services or limited scope representation, the client is able to have the expertise of an attorney, but limit the amount that he or she spends on legal fees.

Flat fee services

Under a flat fee arrangement, I consult with the client and explain the relevant legal issues and what the process will be like. I also assist with whatever documents and forms the client may need. The client files the papers with the court, and represents himself or herself during the court process.

Limited scope representation

On occasion, clients only need legal representation for certain issues in their cases. This can be arranged through limited scope representation. I am the client’s attorney for those particular issues: I research the law, draft motions and other papers, and represent the client in court.

Flat-fee and limited scope representation are available on a variety of family law issues including:

• Divorce, annulment, and legal separations
• Domestic Partnerships
• Modifications of Child Custody and Support
